If you’re looking for one of the best viewpoints in the Philippines, Osmeña Peak in Cebu should absolutely be on your list. We recently hiked Osmeña Peak Cebu ourselves and honestly weren’t sure what to expect beforehand or whether it was worth it. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about hiking Osmeña Peak Cebu independently, plus our honest thoughts after doing it ourselves.

How to Get to Osmeña Peak Cebu
Osmeña Peak is located in Mantalongon, within the municipality of Dalaguete in Cebu Province. Sitting at 1,013 metres (3,323 ft) above sea level, it’s the highest point in Cebu and offers unreal panoramic views over limestone peaks, rolling hills, and the ocean in the distance.

From our research, the easiest way to get to Osmeña Peak is by renting a scooter from Moalboal, which is what we did. Expect to pay around 400–500 PHP ($6.50–8 USD) per day for a rental, excluding petrol.
If you’re in Cebu City, it’s probably a bit far for a scooter so there are tours that you can reserve here.
Note that the tours are paired with another activity like Canyoneering at Kawasan Falls, which is totally worth it and would be a great day out!
We personally loved riding there to Osmeña peak by scooter. The drive itself was beautiful and ended up being part of the experience. The roads are mostly in good condition, although there are some steep and winding sections as you climb into the mountains. If you’re comfortable riding a scooter, we’d definitely recommend doing it this way.
We used Google Maps to navigate there which worked well until we arrived at Lapa village (the village that Osmeña peak overlooks). Right at the entrance of the village the maps prompted us to turn left before entering the village. This was incorrect. You actually need to continue driving straight through the village until you see signs for Osmeña Peak parking.
There’s motorbike parking right at the base of the incline leading up to what’s essentially a small visitor centre (Also peek the absolutely beautiful flowers as you approach and walk up towards the visitor center).
The villagers were incredibly friendly too, so if you’re unsure about anything, just stop and ask politely.

Our Experience Hiking Osmeña Peak Cebu
We arrived at the trailhead around 5pm because we wanted to catch sunset from the top.
Once parked, you’ll walk up the stairs to the visitor centre where you’ll:
- Sign the visitor logbook
- Pay the entrance fees
- Be assigned a guide
Guides are mandatory for everyone hiking Osmeña Peak.
Our guide was William, a local from the village, and he was fantastic — super friendly, spoke great English, and shared loads of interesting information about the area during the hike.
Osmeña Peak Entrance Fees & Costs
Total cost for 2 people:
320 PHP ($5.20 USD / €4.46)
Plus we tipped 200 PHP for the guide.
Breakdown:
- 20 PHP parking fee
- 200 PHP mandatory guide fee
- 50 PHP environmental fee per person
For a solo traveler – approx. 270 PHP total (assuming you drive your own scooter)
The trail is uphill pretty much the entire way, although there are flatter sections throughout. It’s definitely more of an incline walk than a serious hike, and overall we found it very manageable.
The path itself is clear and easy to follow, although parts are uneven and rocky.
Along the way, William stopped at different viewpoints and pointed out fun rock formations and local features. The first viewpoint overlooks Lapa Village, and William shared some interesting facts here – the village has a population of around 600 people and the Mantalongon area is often referred to as the “vegetable basket” of Cebu because tons of fresh veggies are delivered from here all over Cebu on a daily basis – even on the way there was lettuce growing in every location possible!
William also pointed out the famous “Adidas Rock” and “Thumbs Up Rock,” which gave us a laugh.
About halfway up, the trail wraps around the backside of the peak and suddenly opens up into a completely different landscape – a beautiful green valley with views of the sea in the distance.
The full hike took us about 24 minutes to complete, covering roughly 1.2 km (0.8 miles). Most of our time was spent at the summit enjoying the sunset and taking photos. From the top you can see Badian, Bohol, Negros, Pescador island, Panagsama beach, and White Beach. It’s really spectacular.

If you visit at sunset, expect it to be a little busy at the top — but not overwhelmingly so. There was still plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy the view.
One thing we have to mention: the Filipino guides are elite at taking photos and videos. Seriously. They know all the best photo spots and we have found them to be so deserving of tips – as budget backpackers we are always conscious of tipping fairly within our budget and these guides do such a good job we always want to tip above and beyond!!
How difficult is Osmeña peak?
For experienced hikers, Osmeña Peak is very easy.
If you’re newer to hiking, you might find the incline a little tiring, but since the hike is only around 20–30 minutes, it’s still very manageable. The guides also stop regularly for breaks and viewpoints along the way.
Overall, we’d say this hike is achievable for almost everyone with a basic level of fitness.
Best Time to Visit Osmeña Peak Cebu
We went at sunset and the colours were absolutely fantastic so we’re biased in saying sunset is the best time! We started our climb at around 5:15pm and chilled out at the top for about 30-45 mins enjoying the sunset and taking photos. The only downside is that you have to drive home in the dark.
We have heard that sunrise is also a fantastic time to go, but depending on where you’re staying that can mean getting up as early as 2:30-3am which some people might be up for, but for a 30 minute hike, not us 🤣
What to bring for the hike
Here are a few things we’d recommend bringing:
- Cash for entrance fees and parking
- At least 1 litre of water
- A phone or camera
- Comfortable runners/trainers (proper hiking boots aren’t necessary)
- An extra layer as it gets cooler up there
- A rain jacket or poncho if rain is expected
Is Osmeña Peak Cebu Worth It?
Absolutely. This one has all the gain and not too much pain!
If you’re staying in Moalboal, we think Osmeña Peak is 100% worth doing. The drive is short enough to comfortably do in an afternoon, and both the journey and the hike itself are beautiful.
For us, the drive there on the motorbike, followed by the hike, really emphasized just how much the Philipinnes has to offer – the ocean, coastal villages, mountain villages, jungle scenery, palm groves, rolling hills, and limestone peaks. It’s a must-do in our books!
If you’re planning to visit from Cebu city, we definitely recommend opting to pair the hike with a trip to Kawasan Falls or snorkeling the sardine run at Panagsama beach.
